Precision Investment Casting Fabricates Wastewater Propellers
Propeller Casting Foundry Uses Lost Wax Method
This wax propeller mold is used for near net shaped casting, a process which precisely casts the part in a state very close to the final product. Near net shaped casting dramatically reduces the need for post-cast machining. Precision investment castings from R2 Quality Castings are created with industrial wax molds. This process is used to fabricate machine parts such as 3-blade wastewater propellers which are used to break up sewage in water treatment plants.
First, high grade industrial wax is pressed into an extremely accurate mold of the propeller. Next, the wax mold is covered by an extremely sturdy shell composed of a proprietary mixture of heat resistant elements. The resulting cast is placed inside an industrial oven and superheated, completely burning out the wax, leaving an empty cast containing a very precise propeller-shaped cavity. Molten steel is poured into these casts where it forms to the shape of the propeller. After cooling, the cast is broken open to reveal a precision poured part requiring very little machining.
