Precision Investment Casting Foundry Burnout Shell
Lost Wax Casting Method Creates Shaped Steel Parts to Exact Specifications
This burnout shell is the intermediate step of R2 Quality Casting’s precision investment casting process. The pictured mold has just been lowered into a mixture of incredibly durable and heat resistant materials. This mixture dries and forms perfectly to the wax mold inside, exactly mirroring the shape of the desired metal part. The entire mold is placed in the foundry’s superheated oven where the wax burns away leaving a custom shaped mold ready for molten steel, bronze, or any other alloy. The alloy perfectly forms to the contours left by the lost wax model, creating a solid and precise metal part. The resulting precision cast part is incredibly close to the end product. Precision cast parts require very little machining or adjustment. R2 Quality Casting’s precision investment casting foundry will give the new metal part anything from a quick polishing to a mirror finish.
