Propeller Skew Customization from Wisconsin Casting Manufacturers
What is a Skewed Propeller?
A skewed propeller occurs when the moving blade appears to be in a “sweeping” motion and looks asymmetrical.
Pictured on the right is a propeller’s blade that appears to be curved, or skewed, but looks that way due to its cylindrical movement.
Why is a skewed propeller so important to have?
The amount of skew minimizes pressure variations to reduce cavitation (damage done to the propeller’s blade tips) and noise.
Quality Castings crafts propellers with customized skews for maximum performance. Our investment casting process works with tight tolerances to produce flawless propellers. Have a specific blueprint design? Contact our metal propeller casting company today!
Types of Propeller Skews
There are two main types of propeller skews, which differ only in blade direction:
Aft Skew
Aft skews are positive, which means the blade moves in the opposite direction of its rotation.
Forward Skew
Forward skews are negative, which means the blade moves in the same direction of its rotation.
Benefits of Propellers with Custom-Made Skews
Big or small, the propeller is a boat’s driving force. Without it, the boat will not move and just float where the tide takes it. A properly-crafted skewed propeller is truly essential for increasing the lifespan of your water vessel and wallet.
Our custom cast propellers feature a variety of advantages to boat owners, including:
- Doesn’t affect the thrust and efficiency
- Increases movement capabilities
- Minimizes tip damage & noise
