Propeller Thrust

Professionally-Cast Propellers from R2 Quality CastingsPropeller Thrust

A propeller’s thrust is the force which allows the object to move forward – all of it depends on the rotary motion of the blades, the pitch angle, and the pitch of the blade. Expert casting and manufacturing of propellers allow them to have proper thrust so as to be used in whatever application you need them for.

R2 Quality Castings takes great pride in our exceptional precision investment casting, quality verification testing, and part engineering services. We have decades of combined experience in creating superb quality precision investment cast components for many different industries, including military applications, food processing, wastewater treatment, and more. Thrust Calculation

After analysis of the given typical engine information, we have found an average KT value of 0.1375. Thrust can be determined using the following formula:

T = KTρn2D4

Where n equals shaft rotations per second; propeller diameter, D, is measured in feet; thrust, T, is measured in lbs; ρ represents the mass density of water.

Thrust can be found with a margin of error approximately ±25% using the given KT.

Example:

HP = 30

RPM = 750

D = 2.25 feet

ρ = 1.94 lb-sec2/ft4 (fresh water)

n = RPM ÷ 60(seconds / minute)

n = 750 ÷ 60 = 12.50

T = KTρn2D4

0.1375 ⋅ 1.94 ⋅ 12.502 ⋅ 2.254 ≈ 1068.205 lbs
